Frequently Asked Questions

Is this the same product as supermarket Bovril Yeast Extract?

Do not assume so. This product is labelled Beefy Bovril meat and vegetable extract. A jar labelled Bovril Yeast Extract can have a different formulation; compare the exact product labels before choosing a replacement.

Will this taste exactly like the Bovril I remember from Britain?

We cannot promise an identical taste. Check the country and formulation on the jar you remember, and compare it with the product you are buying.

Can I substitute it spoon for spoon for a stock cube or another concentrate?

There is no single substitution ratio for every stock product. Start with a small amount and adjust to your recipe and taste rather than assuming equal quantities.

Should I add extra salt when cooking with it?

Taste the dish after adding Bovril before adding more seasoning. The amount needed depends on your recipe and the other ingredients.

Can I try a smaller jar first?

Yes. See the 125g Beefy Bovril jar for a smaller quantity and its current availability. Read the information for the exact jar you choose.
